Intellectual Property and Access to Medicines Working Group
WORKING GROUP PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES: The Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and Access to Medicines (AtM) group's main purpose is to develop and deliver policy positions on the variety of issues encompassed under IPR through research and policy analysis, with a particular orientation towards Southern countries. The objectives of this group are to provide students with research and campaigning opportunities, while simultaneously contributing to the specific advocacy objectives of an STJC campaign.
WORKING GROUP STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION: This WG will be composed of one Coordinator and several working group members. This group will be responsible for the contribution of applicable IP and AtM-related policy and materials to the efforts of the current STJC campaign(s).
ROLE DESCRIPTIONS:
1 WG Coordinator, whose immediate role will include:
a. Daily oversight of the group's progress as it relates to the needs of STJC's advocacy campaign(s)
b. Assisting in the compilation and creation of materials and resources
c. Taking an active role in establishing and maintaining meaningful partnerships with domestic and international policy partners
4-5 WG Members, whose immediate roles will include:
a. Compiling, researching, and studying of IP and access-to-meds issues related to the efforts of the current STJC campaign(s).
b. Providing accurate, timely information and IP/AtM-related policy and materials for use in the current STJC campaign(s).

... Studying and following up on the issues of access to medicines, patents, AIDS and other health concerns in the fallout of CAFTA
... Studying the potential affects of pending U.S. FTA's with Andean nations upon patent protection, price and access to medicines, AIDS, and other health concerns in each country
... Authoring or co-authoring of materials that contribute to fair and equitable health policy implementation in pending Latin American FTAs
