Agriculture Working Group
WORKING GROUP PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES: The Agriculture group works to develop and deliver agricultural policy that works for and represents the needs of small-scale or struggling farmers and producers in the both the U.S. and the Global South. The objectives of this group are to provide students with research and campaigning opportunities, while simultaneously contributing to the specific advocacy goals of an STJC campaign.
WORKING GROUP STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION: This working group will be composed of one Coordinator and several working group members. This group will be responsible for the contribution of applicable agriculture policy and materials to the efforts of the concurrent STJC campaign(s).
ROLE DESCRIPTIONS:
1 WG Coordinator, whose immediate role will include:
a. Daily oversight of the group's progress as it relates to the needs of STJC's advocacy campaign(s)
b. Assisting in the compilation and creation of materials and resources
c. Taking an active role in establishing and maintaining meaningful partnerships with domestic and international policy partners
4-5 WG Members, whose immediate roles will include:
a. Compiling, researching, and studying of agricultural issues related to the efforts of the current STJC campaign(s)
b. Providing accurate, timely information and agriculture policy materials for use in the current STJC campaign(s).

Justice for the Americas Campaign
... Researching the role that agriculture plays in the Andean nations, particularly in Peru, Columbia, and Ecuador
... Studying the potential affects of a U.S. free trade agreement upon the agricultural sector of these nations, including affects on indigenous rights, biodiversity, resource allocation, etc
... Engaging in dialogue with the popular farmers movements within Latin America
... Contribution of campaign materials for use in Latin American FTAs advocacy initiatives
Domestic Reform Campaign (currently in development)
... Studying the literature on U.S. farm consolidation, agribusiness, subsidies, and the affects of each upon rural America, the family farming community, and sustainable agriculture
... Researching the sustainable, communitarian model of agriculture as a viable alternative
... Studying the domestic implications of and following the development of WTO negotiations
... Contributing to domestic advocacy efforts to create a fair and equitable 2007 Farm Bill, namely by creating campaign materials and engaging in public debate and lobbying efforts
