Lobbying Working Group
WORKING GROUP PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES: The Lobbying Coordinator and working group will support, coordinate, and take the lead on STJC's nationwide lobbying efforts for all of its campaigns, ranging from in-person lobbying of Congresspersons on the Hill or in their home districts, lobbying of other appropriate government or corporate officials, and e-actions to direct actions, stunts, protests, rallies, and other public activities. When not directly engaging in lobbying activities, the working group build knowledge and mechanisms to make our lobbying more effective.
WG STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION: This WG will be composed of one Coordinator and several working group members. The group will be responsible for building STJC's lobbying capacity as well as working closely with each STJC's advocacy campaigns to ensure their lobbying efforts are well-executed and effective.
ROLE DESCRIPTIONS:
1 WG Coordinator, whose immediate role will include:
a. Daily oversight of the group's progress as it relates to the needs of STJC's advocacy campaign(s)
b. Maintaining close relationships with certain ally organizations to ensure STJC's lobbying intelligence is up-to-the-minute
c. Developing/overseeing the development of new tools and mechanisms for STJC's bag of lobbying tricks
3-5 WG Members, whose immediate roles will include:
a. Working with the Lobbying coordinator to build STJC's lobbying strength
b. Working closely with ONE of the advocacy campaigns to help ensure their lobbying needs are being met
c. Keeping up-to-the-minute intelligence on lobbying issues pertinent to his/her chosen advocacy campaign
IMMEDIATE AND UPCOMING SUPPORT WORK FOR CAMPAIGNS WILL INCLUDE:
Justice for the Americas Campaign
... Research and maintain up-to-date information about Congresspeoples' stances towards Free Trade Agreements, particularly those who are on the fence
... Maintain up-to-date information about the Pledge for Trade Justice, candidates who are have or have not signed on and opportunities to confront them with it
... Work with allies, particularly StopCAFTA, to hold pro-CAFTA voters accountable for their votes in November
... Devising creative new methods for lobbying around the Colombia and possibly Peru FTAs
