Bridging Fair Trade and Trade Justice Working Group
WORKING GROUP PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES: The working group members will seek to create and implement a campaign to bridge the Fair Trade movement and the Trade Justice movement in thought, word, and action. Working directly with allied organizations like United Students for Fair Trade is strongly recommended. The first concrete goal is to research and write a Bridging Fair Trade and Trade Justice Campaigner. This campaigner should essentially be an organizing tool for students across the country to understand the links between fair trade and trade justice and why students need to get involved in promoting fair trade on a local level and advocating for trade justice practices and policies on a national and global level.
The potential of the Campaigner as an effective organizing tool on campuses and in communities will hinge on how well the WG is able to articulate the values of the movements and give the readers concrete advocacy steps they can take on where ever they are.
WORKING GROUP STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION: The Coordinator will have the role of facilitating the working group. The coordinator will work with WG members to meet deadlines they set for themselves and to write the Bridging Fair Trade and Trade Justice Campaigner. Once the Campaigner is written and given to the public the WG will be open for feedback from STJC affiliates on further steps that could possibly be taken to improve the Campaigner. Primary focus will shift into what other mediums the WG can utilize to bridge the two movements such as documentary film making or interactive online trainings for campus organizers.
