National Team
Trade isn't an easy issue to work on. There are a host of different issues, and usually many ways of looking at each individual issue. And as much as a broad, worldwide consensus rejecting neoliberal dogma has grown in recent years, that worldwide movement has many nuances that must be properly understood. Perhaps hardest of all, decisions on trade law often happen at high heights, behind closed doors, or otherwise beyond easy reach.
The Student Trade Justice Campaign aims directly at overcoming these difficulties through its National Team, which is divided into three parts:
Our International Partnerships division engages directly in genuine partnerships with Global South organizations by centering relationships around Southern partner agendas. In turn, these partnerships build STJC's understanding of policy impacts and enable us to genuinely involve Southern voices in the movement.
Our Policy division grapples directly with the varieties of complex perspectives and analyses inherent in trade work, as well as incorporating many of the lessons learned from our partners. Whether working on larger research projects or targeted, timely actions, Policy is about keeping STJC's trade knowledge accurate, up-to-date, and true to the movement.
Our Advocacy division is about making things happen. Whether this is indirectly through organizing, educating and building the movement, or directly through mobilizing on certain aims and goals, Advocacy is all about seeing results in the real world.
The National Team's role is to build resources that are tough to maintain on a single campus or in a small group, then make those resources public so that everyone in the movement can take advantage of them. The National Team is always in need of more people-power, so check out how you can Get Involved.
Also, because STJC is committed to keeping our partnerships genuine, our policy wise and our advocacy strong, we're always looking for ways to work with people and organizations who have experience with the issues STJC works on. If you're such a person, check out our information for Partners.
