About STJC
Our Mission

The Student Trade Justice Campaign (STJC) is a national network of students engaging our campuses and communities through education and informed advocacy, committed to achieving responsible, sustainable and equitable trade.

What We Do

STJC is a student advocacy organization that continually engages in actions geared towards supporting positive, genuinely development-oriented and human rights-conscious international trade initiatives. We also seek to educate students and the public about the effects of the current international trading system on the world's most marginalized and poorest peoples.

STJC fights Free Trade Agreements, corporate activity, and other issues that violate human rights and cripple the ability of developing countries to engage in real development. Given that a free market fundamentalist, neoliberal regime currently dominates the discussion on trade, there's a lot to oppose. But STJC walks into opposition with both eyes open: to ensure our stances are consistent with the needs of the poor, we work with numerous partners in both the global South and North.

How We Do It

Thanks to globalization, international trade touches the lives of nearly every human being on Earth. It touches these lives in ways much more complex than simple statistics can tell. For precisely this reason, STJC's International Partnerships division maintains partnerships with organizations in developing countries that, through relationships built on collaboration and solidarity, provide great insight into the genuine desires of a country's people poor and marginalized people.

Putting policy issues into the context of those relationships (and vice versa) is essential for sound policy, which is why STJC also maintains a Policy division. Our third division, Advocacy, coordinates our education and advocacy efforts, including everything from in-person lobbying to protests and demonstrations.

Together, Advocacy, Policy and International Partnerships form STJC's National Team - but our real strength lies in our supporter base. The National Team puts all its effort into learning about and organizing around trade so that when the time comes, we can all act together in support of and solidarity with forgotten and marginalized people from across the world.
